Production Concept: Naples

This is my first edit of my "Coming Up Next Week" segment and I am pretty happy with it at the moment. For this segment I didn't want to have any other presenters in it and so I tried to film a lot of footage which contained no people but still captures Naples and what the audience could see next week. I didn't have any of the uni equipment and so the quality of the footage is a bit poor compared with the rest of my taster episode but I think it still captures what I wanted the be show. I may add voiceover to it but at the moment I like it the way it is.

Production Concept: The Edit Begins

Today I started editing my tasted episode and at the moment I am really happy with it. Some of the shots look a lot different colour wise but I will fix that with colour correction at the end. At the moment I have just put the pieces to camera in order and then tomorrow I will go back through and start adding the cutaways and location montages.

The Mac Twins Showreel

After working with The Mac Twins on my and Maddie's major project I kept in contact with them and they asked me to make them a new showreel. They really liked the format of their current showreel and so did I but it needed to be updated a bit with new clips and a few tweaks. I really wanted to make sure it captured everything they do, so I made sure I showed some pieces to camera, DJing, interviews and coverage of events. It was hard to edit the clips as they all already had sound on them and so I had to try and mask it somehow with the track they wanted to use or try and find clips which had low volume.

This is the video I made for them.

Production Concept: Filming

The weather was great and I woke up really early so that I knew I was prepared for the day ahead. I always   dread going out to film but as soon as I get out there and start doing it I do actually start to enjoy it especially when I start ticking off my shot list.

Maddie, Nikki and I all arrived in London at 12 and headed straight to Buckingham palace to get some some London establishing shots. We then walked and got shots of Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and the London Eye as well as getting shots of buses, taxis and phone boxes to really show off iconic London.

After this we headed to Trafalgar Square to meet up with the presenters.

The presenters were really amazing today and very professional and where they shoot some of their own things they were helping me out when I had issues or giving me suggestion on what I could film and make my film look better. They knew the script really well and changed a few things around to make it seem a bit more natural which I was more than happy with.

The only problem I had was the height difference between my 2 presenters but we tried to disguise this issue in a few shots where we could.

We worked our way through the script and we manged to have everything apart from the event filmed by 5 so I allowed the presenters to go off and for Nikki and Maddie to have a break whilst I went off and got a few cutaways. I made sure that I asked permission from every stall owner as some of them were a bit funny about me filming. We met at the Abbey Tavern at 7 and filmed the end links and GV's and establishing shots of the pub before the event started and then we managed to film a few acts and get our interview with the event organiser.

I wrapped the presenters at about 9 and we didn't leave too much later.

I am really happy with how today went I just need to wait until tomorrow to get all my footage on the computer so I can see what it really looks like and sounds like.

Production Concept: Coming Up Next Week

Last weekend I went to Naples to visit a friend and also celebrate my birthday. Whilst I was out there I took a few shots of Naples so that I could create a coming up next week segment. As neither my presenters from my trailer or the presenters I want to use for my real series were with me I had to make sure that I got mostly shots which did not include any people.

I will edit these together when I start making my trailer tomorrow.

Produciton Concept: All Set for Tomorrows Shoot

I'm all set for tomorrows shoot I have all the equipment and props I need:
2 radio mics
1 Cannon 7D
1 Sony XD Cam
1 Tripod
1 Yolo tattoo but also a tattoo sleeve as back up

I have printed out my 2 different script breakdowns and my shot list, a few maps to the locations I am using and also concent forms for the presenters to fill out.

I emailed Nikki and my presenters last night to confirm everything. I have said to Maddie and Nikki to meet me in London at 12 so we can go and get shots of the landmarks and then I have told the presenters to meet us at Trafalgar Square at 2.

I am really nervous about the shoot tomorrow as this is the main bit of my project but I know that I have good presenters, a good director and that I have planned it well and so hopefully every thing will go to plan and I can start getting on with the edit tomorrow.

Production Concept: Updated Shot list and Script

As I was making my shot lists I had an email come through from someone at Camden's Roundhouse saying that I might be able to film there if I can do it before 4 and so I have created a new breakdown script and added the shots I wanted to capture to it just in case we can fit it all in.

Production Concept: Shot list

Today I had a tutorial and I told Simon where I was at and how that tomorrow I was going to be shooting my trailer. I booked out my cameras and I went home and started creating my shot lists.

Production Concept: Update on Trailer

On Thursday I had to make sure I had everything ready for my trailer as I was away all weekend and wouldn't be back until late Sunday night. I was rushing around all day trying to sort everything out and find a venue to film and event in and have an interview with someone and finally at about 5pm on Thursday I found a venue in Camden with an open mic night which was more than happy to let me come down and film. Panic Over!

I sent my script breakdowns to my presenters and Nikki.

Production Concept: My Presenters

In my actually series I want to use Finn and Jack Harris as my main 2 presenters but as they didn't get back to me and are extremely busy for my trailer I have found 2 very comical presenters to appear in the episode. I put out an audition on StarNow to help me find a presenter and I had a big response but many of them were applying singly and I really needed a pair. I searched the StarNow directory for stand up comedians and presenters and I managed to find a few who I contacted.

One person I contacted was Abby Murphy as I looked at some of her videos and I thought she was quite funny and I saw she had a comedy partner. I contacted her and asked if her and her friend would be interested in the project and they were. I met them both in London to discuss what I wanted and to give them a copy of the breakdown script so that they could get an idea of what the episode would look like.

These are my 2 presenters

Abbie Murphy
and Ricky Hunt

They are both dance school graduates and are now trying to write, perform, film and produce their own comedy sketches.

Production Concept: Commissioning a Graphics Designer

Today I had a Skype meeting with a graphics designer from UCA Farnham. I asked her to help me create a brochure to display all my important information in my package as well as maybe doing a few mock ups for social network sites. I have sent her a list of everything I need to include in my package and I have also asked her if she would be able to mock up an app design for me which she has said she will be able to do if she gets time.

Her name is Kat and this is her blog http://youcallthat-art.tumblr.com/

This is the document I gave to Kat to let her know what I wanted to include in the brochure and to let her know some of my ideas.

I am really happy with all my collaboration and I feel like it is all really coming together now.

Production Concept: Meeting With My Animator

Today I went to Rochester and met with my animator Urvashi to see how she was getting on and what stage she was at. She showed me some screen shots of what she had come up with so far. I was really impressed and I loved the idea and I could really see it working. We discussed a few changes but overall I thought it was amazing and I am so happy with it so far. We will meet again in a couple of weeks to see where we are both at.

Production Concept: Briefing Nikki

I edited a few clips together to give Nikki an idea of how I wanted my taster episode to be shot. I took a lot of inspiration from Geordie Shore as I really like the fast paced editing and movement in their establishing/ location shots and this is what I want to focus on the most in my episode. I also want to make sure that we got a lot of cutaways so that we could really give the audience a feel for the locations and what goes on there. I also included some point of view shots and time laps as I also wanted to include these types of shots in my episode. I knew I wanted to use point of view on the tube and I also wanted some time laps but I know this will be hard as we won't have a lot of memory or time to shoot.

Production Concept: Trip to London

Today I went to London and had a very productive day. I took some test shots, met with my presenters, talked to people at STA to help me plan what I was going to show in my program, location hunted and spoke to the organizer of the comedy night.
